Monank Patel hit a crucial fifty against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.
United States of America’s (USA) regular captain Monank Patel missed the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 clash between the co-hosts and India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
Playing at the T20 World Cup for the first time, the United States are on the verge of qualifying for the Super Eight stage of the ongoing tournament. The co-hosts won their first two group stage matches. They started their campaign by defeating Canada and then defeated Pakistan in a Super Over, which stunned the cricketing world.
With two victories so far, USA need to win just one match out of their remaining two group stage fixtures to advance to the next round.
Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma-led India will fancy their chances against USA in absence of their regular skipper, Monank, who notched up a match-winning half-century against Pakistan. The Men in Blue are also undefeated at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, with wins over Ireland and Pakistan. They are also only one victory away from advancing to the next round.
Big blow for USA, Monank Patel is out due to a left shoulder injury against India
Meanwhile, in surprising turn of events, vice-captain Aaron Jones came out for the toss against Rohit Sharma, instead of USA’s regular captain Monank Patel, who origins from India. Later it was revealed that Monank has been ruled out of the game due to left shoulder injury.
Speaking at the toss, Jones added that Monank would be returning to action soon. Shayan Jahangir replaced Patel in the playing XI.
“We would have bowled first as well, there’s some help for the bowlers early. He’s (Monank Patel) having a niggle and should be back quickly. It should be a good game and we’re looking to play well. The camp is very positive, just looking to play some good cricket. Shayan Jahangir replaces Monank and Shadley is in for Nosthush,” said Aaron Jones after losing the toss.
Both teams playing XIs:
USA (Playing XI): Steven Taylor, Shayan Jahangir, Andries Gous(w), Aaron Jones(c), Nitish Kumar, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Jasdeep Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj
