ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan squad, schedule, timings, venues and all you need to know

Afghanistan are placed in Group C, which includes West Indies and New Zealand.

The Afghanistan cricket team have been placed in Group C of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They will compete with prominent teams like New Zealand and West Indies in the battle to advance to the next phase.

The tournament will begin on June 1 with the final scheduled on June 29. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America.

20 teams have been divided into four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each of the four groups will proceed to the Super 8 phase, where they will be split into two groups of four each. The top two teams from each group will then enter the semi-finals. The semi-finals are slated for June 26 and 27, with the final on June 29.

Afghanistan made their T20 World Cup debut in 2010 and have played every tournament since. They have recorded only seven wins in 24 matches in the history of the competition. Their most famous win in the tournament came in 2016 when they beat that year’s eventual champions West Indies in a Super 10 game.

Afghanistan have been placed in Group C of the T20 World Cup 2024 along with West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.

The Rashid Khan-led side will play their first two matches on June 3 and 7 against Uganda and New Zealand respectively, in Guyana. Their next fixture is against Papua New Guinea on June 13 in Trinidad, followed by their last group match against West Indies on June 17 in Saint Lucia.

Afghanistan group stage venues for their matches in T20 World Cup 2024:

Afghanistan’s Group C matches in the T20 World Cup 2024 have been scheduled at three venues. They will play their first two league matches at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana. Their league match against Papua New Guinea will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.

Their final group game against West Indies will be hosted at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

Timings for Afghanistan’s matches in T20 World Cup 2024:

Afghanistan’s first match at the T20 World Cup 2024 against Uganda is scheduled to begin at 6:00 AM IST (+5:30 IST) (08:30 PM local). Their second match against New Zealand will start at 5:00 AM IST (+5:30 IST)(07:30 PM local). The Asian side’s clash against Papua New Guinea is scheduled for 06:00 AM IST (+5:30 IST)(08:30 PM local) and their last match against co-hosts West Indies will be played at 6:00 AM IST (+5:30 IST)(08:30 PM local).
