Virat Kohli only scored 5 runs during the group stage at ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has reached the end of the group stage. Eight teams from four groups have made it to the next round, while 12 teams have been eliminated. Some big teams like Pakistan, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka faced the heat and were eliminated from the competition. Meanwhile, the USA, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan qualified for the Super 8.

This tournament saw some incredible performances. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Marcus Stoinis, and Fazalhaq Farooqi are some of the top performers in the tournament so far. But then, there were a few big names who disappointed the fans. Hence, we will talk here about the worst or flop XI of the group stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Flop XI of group stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

1. Quinton de Kock (SA) (Wk)

South Africa entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with some good performances in the recent past, and they had a decent tournament. South Africa have won all four matches. One of the main reasons behind South Africa’s success so far is their bowling unit. Their batters have struggled, just like Quinton de Kock, who has had a poor tournament so far. He scored only 48 runs in four innings at an average of 12.

2. Virat Kohli (IND)

Virat Kohli is probably the best batter across three formats in modern-day cricket. And his numbers in all T20 World Cups are incredible. But he had his worst tournament so far this year. In three innings as opener, Virat registered the scores of 1, 4, and 0. He has five runs in three innings, which is the lowest among all Indian batters.

3. Fakhar Zaman (PAK)

Aggressive batter Fakhar Zaman is one of the best T20I batters from Pakistan. But his performances so far have been below par. The left-hander scored only 33 runs in four innings at an average of 8.25, which doesn’t do justice to his ability. His form was one of the reasons that Pakistan suffered a group-stage exit.

4. Usman Khan (PAK)

Another Pakistani batter who struggled badly was Usman Khan. The right-hander joined the Pakistani team after terminating his contract with the UAE. But it looks like he made the worst decision of his career. Usman had a poor tournament, and he could only score 20 runs in four innings at an average and strike rate of 6.66 and 90.90, respectively.

5. Rovman Powell (WI) – Captain

West Indies did pretty well and have made it to the next round after winning the first three games. But the individual performance of captain Rovman Powell was below par. He played three innings and scored a total of 39 runs at an average of 13 and a strike rate of 105.40.

6. Shadab Khan (PAK)

If you have followed the Pakistan cricket team closely, you must know that one player who is badly out of form, but still playing every game is Shadab Khan. That’s why we have picked him as an all-rounder in this team. The all-rounder scored 44 runs in three innings at an average of 14.66, including a duck. With the ball, he bowled four overs and conceded 38 runs without taking a single wicket.

7. Marco Jansen (SA)

Despite South Africa’s success, there are some players who have been rusty. South Africa will hope that they can get into form as the Super 8 round is coming up. Marco Jansen is one of them. He is the only genuine all-rounder in the South African squad, but his form has been below par. In four games, he has taken only two wickets. He has scored nine runs in three innings.

8. Mitchell Santner (NZ)

We need a good spinner in this team, along with Shadab, so we have picked Mitchell Santner as the second spinner in this team. New Zealand struggled badly, so did Santner. He was selected as New Zealand’s main spinner over Ish Sodhi, but couldn’t perform like that. He took only three wickets in three matches and scored only 25 runs with the bat.

9. Mitchell Starc (AUS)

Mitchell Starc bagged MOTM awards for KKR in Qualifier 1 and then in final of the Indian Premier League 2024, and he entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with some form under his belt. But, his performances have been totally contrasting. In three games, Starc has picked only two wickets at a higher economy rate of 8.80. His economy is one of the highest in this tournament.

10. Chris Jordan (ENG)

Chris Jordan has established himself as the death-over specialist in the England team. Jordan is one of the key components of England’s bowling unit. But his current form is not good, which is why he was even dropped from the last game. Jordan has taken three wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 10.87, which is poor in this low-scoring tournament.

11. Shaheen Afridi (PAK)

Pakistan suffered an early exit after losing to the USA and India in the first two games. Though they won against Canada and Ireland, it wasn’t enough for the team. Most of the Pakistani bowlers did well, but their premier pacer, Shaheen Afridi, didn’t do well in the first few matches. He finished the tournament with 5 wickets, and three of those came in the last match against Ireland. That means he took only two wickets in the first three matches and couldn’t do well.
