ICC T20 World Cup 2024: New York pitch to be re-worked ahead of IND vs PAK clash

Many cricket pundits have criticized New York pitch in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9.

Ahead of the high-voltage match, New York pitch has been a constant hot topic for many cricket pundits. Many experts felt that the New York pitch is below average for playing cricket there. Till now, just two games have been played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The first match was played between Sri Lanka and South Africa while the second match was between India and Ireland on June 5. Both the matches were a low-scoring affairs, which raised question about the New York pitch.

The pitch turned out to be bowling paradise in the the first two matches played there. It is to be noted that, many deliveries by the fast bowlers stood up from the good length and almost hit the batters’ helmet. While some balls stayed low during both matches.

ICC released official statement regarding New York pitch ahead of IND vs PAK clash

After facing massive criticism from fans and experts regarding the New York pitch, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on June 6 released an official statement. The apex cricket board said that the groundsmen will re-work and solve the issues of the pitch.

The ICC further added that they will try to provide a better surface ahead of the much-awaited India vs. Pakistan clash on June 9 at the venue.

“T20 Inc and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches,” stated ICC in a media release.
