South Africa defeated co-hosts USA by 18 runs in Super 8 match at ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

South Africa veteran opener Quinton de Kock smashed a blistering half-century as Proteas posted a competitive total of 194/4 in 20 overs against co-hosts United States of America in the Super 8 (Group 2) match in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 19.

After being asked to bat first, Proteas opener Quinton de Kock unleashed his beast mode and slammed 74 runs off 40 balls, while skipper Aiden Markram played a crucial knock of 46 off 32 deliveries.

The duo also shared a 110-run partnership, which helped South Africa go past the 190-run mark. For the United States, left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar and spinner Harmeet Singh took two wickets each.

While chasing 195 runs, the United States lost four batters – Steven Taylor (24), Nitish Kumar (8), skipper Aaron Jones (0), and Corey Anderson (12) – as the co-hosts reached 71/4 in first 10 overs.

Opener Andries Gous (80*) and middle order batter Harmeet Singh (38) stitched a fighting partnership of 91 runs of 43 balls in the chase. However, the co-hosts lost the match by 18 runs.

After registering a win by 18 runs against the USA, Aiden Markram-led South Africa bagged two crucial points in Group 2 of the Super 8. They are ranked first with two points and NRR of +0.900.

After suffering a defeat, Aaron Jones-led USA are at the second position with nil points and NRR of -0.900. 

On the other hand, defending champions England and two-time T20 world champions West Indies will begin their Super 8 round when they clash each other later in the day at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
