ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Points table, most runs & most wickets after match 42, ENG vs WI

England thumped hosts West Indies by 8 wickets in their Super 8 match at ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
After managing to sneak into the Super 8 round, with the help of Australia’s victory over Scotland, defending champions England showed their might against hosts West Indies in their first Super 8 game at St Lucia.
Riding on Phil Salt’s dominating knock of 87* (47), which included seven fours and five sixes, England knocked over the target of 181 runs in 17.3 overs and with eight wickets in hand. This kind of victory for the Three Lions has sent an ominous message to the other seven teams in the Super 8 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
At the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first. The pitches here have been the best batting surfaces in this tournament. Hence, a total of 180 posted by the West Indies wasn’t daunting at all for an English side filled with some of the best power hitters in the world.
While Buttler wasn’t at his fluent best, scoring 25 runs in 22 balls, Salt was at his belligerent best. Salt cracked 35 (20) in the powerplay and then grew dangerous as his innings progressed. He effectively sealed the chase in the 16th over of the innings when he blasted Romario Shepherd for 30 runs.
