ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Points table, most runs & most wickets after match 44, AUS vs BAN

Australia defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS method) in their Super 8 clash at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Pat Cummins and David Warner starred for Australia in their victory over Bangladesh in their Super 8 encounter on Thursday night in Antigua. This meant that the Mitchell Marsh-led side remained undefeated – having won five out of five matches – in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Cummins became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the ongoing tournament. He is the second Australian to do so in the men’s T20 World Cup history and the seventh overall. Warner scored 53* runs off 35 balls. His knock helped Australia stay well ahead of the DLS score, so when rain stopped the match after 11.2 overs of Australia’s innings, they were 28 runs ahead.

The AUS vs BAN match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, was marred by rain. Only Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy got set while others struggled to get going. Cummins took his hat-trick in the death overs: his hat-trick was spread across the last two balls of the 18th over and the first ball of the 20th over, which didn’t allow Bangladesh to have a grandstand finish.

Chasing 141, Warner and Travis Head blasted 65 runs in 6.5 overs and effectively sealed the match. Due to rain, no more play was possible after 11.2 overs in Australia’s innings. They were declared the winners on the DLS rule by 28 runs.

Group 1

All four teams in Group 1 have played one game each. Australia defeated Bangladesh after India thumped Afghanistan by 47 runs.

Group 2

In Group 2 as well, all four nations have played a game each. England smoked away West Indies by eight wickets, while South Africa hammered the USA by 18 runs.
