Two Afghanistan players are leading the runs and wickets charts at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after the first semi-final.
South Africa stormed into their maiden men’s ICC World Cup final, ODI or T20I, on Wednesday night in Trinidad with a dominating nine-wicket victory over Rashid Khan’s Afghanistan team in the first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Afghanistan had an insipiring run in the group-stage and Super 8 rounds, where they upstaged teams like New Zealand and Australia, but their journey came to an end in the semi-final in Trinidad with a dismal batting show against the Protea bowlers, who were too hot to handle for the Afghan batters on this night. Nonetheless, Afghanistan have already impressed everyone and won the hearts of all cricket fans.
For South Africa, this is their chance to clinch their first-ever ICC World Cup trophy in any format as they await the winners of the second-semi-final, which will be played on Thursday morning in Guyana between India and South Africa.
Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada ripped through the top and upper-middle-order of Afghanistan by taking five wickets in the first five overs, effectively sealing the semi-final in the powerplay. Then, Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi got into the act to clean up the remaining five wickets. Afghanistan were bundled out for only 56 runs, which is their lowest-ever total in T20Is.
