ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Super 8 Points table, most runs & most wickets after match 45, ENG vs SA

After defeating England, South Africa have almost booked their place in semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

South Africa wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock slammed a crucial fifty as Proteas posted 163/6 in 20 overs against defending champions England in the Super 8 clash (Group 2) at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on June 21 in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

After being asked to bat first, South Africa opener de Kock hammered 65 runs off just 38 deliveries, whereas middle-order batter David Miller scored a quick-fire 28-ball 43 to guide the Proteas past the 160-run mark. For England, speedster Jofra Archer took a three-wicket haul. While spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid bagged one scalp each.

During the chase, England lost four batters – Philp Salt (11), skipper Jos Buttler (17), Jonny Bairstow (16) and Moeen Ali (9) as 63/4 in first 11 overs. However, Harry Brook made a stunning 53 runs and Liam Livingstone played a quick-fire knock of 33 runs in 17 balls, but both crucial knocks went in vain as the defending champions lost the thrilling clash by seven runs.

With this victory, South Africa have almost confirmed their place in semi-finals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Super 8 Points Table

Group 1

In Group 1, mighty Australia are at the top with two points and NRR of +2.471. Rohit Sharma-led India are at the second position with two points and NRR of +2.350.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in the third and fourth positions respectively with zero victories to their name.

Group 2

After defeating England by seven runs, Aiden Markram-led South Africa are ranked first with four points and NRR of +0.625. Defending champions England, who suffered a heartbreaking defeat, are positioned second with two points and NRR of 0.412

On the other hand, the United States of America and the two time World T20 Champions West Indies, find themselves at third and fourth places respectively. Both teams are yet to win a game in the Super 8 stage.
