With two losses in Super 8, USA are all but eliminated from the semi-final race in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
In match number 46 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosts West Indies defeated the other co-hosts of the tournament, USA, by 9 wickets in a dominating victory on Friday night at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
This was the second game of both teams in the Super 8 round; both had lost their first matches in this round. With this victory, West Indies keep themselves alive in the semis race. Given that they completed the chase of 129 in only 10.5 overs, their net run rate of +1.814 is much better than England’s net run rate of +0.412.
England also have one win in two games, so WI right now have an advantage over the Three Lions of better NRR, but England’s last group game is against the USA and West Indies’ last match is against South Africa, which means the WI vs SA fixture is virtually going to be a must-win match for Rovman Powell’s side.
Coming to the USA vs WI match, Roston Chase and Andre Russell starred with the ball, registering figures of 3/19 and 3/31, respectively, to restrict the USA to 128. In the chase, opener Shai Hope blasted 82* off 39 balls with the help of eight sixes to seal the chase in less than 11 overs.
