ICC T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies squad, schedule, timings, venues and all you need to know

West Indies and the United States are the hosts of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Two-time champions and co-hosts of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the West Indies announced their 15-member squad on May 3. The global tournament will start on June 1 and will be played in the West Indies and USA. For the first time in the history of the competition, a total of 20 teams will take part in the main tournament.

The two-time T20 world champions have named Rovman Powell as their skipper. Right-arm speedster Alzaari Joseph will serve as Powell’s deputy in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. 

Cricket West Indies (CWI) have picked a star-studded middle-order with plenty of power-hitters. The co-hosts have included Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetymer and Sherfane Rutherford in their squad. Dangerous all-rounders Andre Russell and Romario Shepherd will provide dual services.

A few days before the start of the tournament, West Indies suffered a major setback when senior all-rounder Jason Holder was ruled out of the upcoming event due to an injury. Pacer Obed McCoy replaced Holder in the squad.

The selection committee named five reserve players: Kyle Mayers, Matthew Forde, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh and Andre Fletcher.

West Indies full schedule for ICC T20 World Cup 2024:

The Rovman Powell-led side are placed in Group C along with Papua New Guinea, Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan.

The two-time champions WI, will start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Papua New Guinea on June 2. The hosts will then face Uganda on June 8. On June 12, they will face New Zealand. The final league match for the West Indies will be against Afghanistan on June 17.

• June 2: vs Papua New Guinea
• June 8: vs Uganda
• June 12: vs New Zealand
• June 17: vs Afghanistan

The Super 8 matches will be played from June 19 to June 25.

At which venues will West Indies play their group stage matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024?

The hosts will play their first two matches, against Papua New Guinea and Uganda, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Their third match against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium. The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium will host the Afghanistan clash on June 17.

What are the timings of West Indies matches in the T20 World Cup 2024?

Their first league stage match against Papua New Guinea will get underway at 8:00 PM IST/02:30 PM GMT/10:30 AM local time on June 2.

Their second group stage match against Uganda will be played at 6:00 AM IST/12:30 AM GMT (Jun 09)/08:30 PM local time (Jun 08).

The West Indies vs New Zealand match is scheduled to start at 6:00 AM IST/12:30 AM GMT (Jun 13)/08:30 PM local time (Jun 12).

Their last group stage fixture against Afghanistan will kick off at 6:00 AM IST/12:30 AM GMT (June 18)/8:30 PM local time (June 17).
