20 teams are part of ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Indian Cricket Team and Pakistan Cricket Team are placed in the same group in ICC T20 World Cup 2026, according to reports by Cricbuzz. A total of 20 teams are part of the tournament, which will be played from February 7 to March 8, 2026.

All the 20 teams part of the tournament are divided into four groups of five teams each. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are placed in the same group 1, alongside Netherlands, Namibia, and United States of America (USA). Co-hosts Sri Lanka are part of Group 2, joining teams like Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman in their pool.

England, West Indies, and Bangladesh have been added to Group 3, joining associate nations Nepal and Italy. The latter has qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time. South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada are placed in Group 4.

  • Group 2: Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Oman
  • Group 3: England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, Italy
  • Group 4: South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE, Canada

India will commence their campaign against the USA, followed by group fixtures against Namibia, Pakistan and the Netherlands. Pakistan will play all of their games in Sri Lanka. The India vs Pakistan clash is scheduled to take place on February 15.

As per the reports, a total of eight venues have been shortlisted for ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad are the five cities that will host the matches in India. Kandy will be another venue in addition to the two international grounds in Colombo in Sri Lanka.

Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad is scheduled to host the final. However, if Pakistan reaches the summit clash, Colombo will host the encounter. Mumbai, Kolkata, and Colombo are shortlisted for the semi-final games, with Colombo hosting one semi-final is Pakistan advances.

According to the format of ICC T20 World Cup 2026, each team will face the other teams of their group once in the first round. The top two teams from each group will qualify for Super Eight Round. Later, four teams will make their way into the semi-finals, and the winners of the semis will lock horns in the final.

India are the defending champions of the tournament. The Men in Blue crushed South Africa in the final of the previous edition in 2024.
