In Rawalpindi, Pakistan lost their first-ever test series to Bangladesh.

On September 3rd, Pakistan suffered one of the most embarrassing moments in their cricket history as they lost their first-ever test series to Bangladesh. That they lost it at home made it even more humiliating for Shan Masood’s team.

The two-match test series was played in Rawalpindi and was part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Bangladesh won the first test by 10 wickets and the second by six wickets.

26-year-old Mehidy Hasan Miraz was adjudged Player of the Series for his terrific all-round performances that propelled Bangladesh to a historic series win.

Pakistan fall behind Sr Lanka and West Indies in ICC test team rankings

After this 2-0 defeat against Bangladesh, which followed a 3-0 loss in Australia, Pakistan slipped two spots in the latest ICC test team rankings. They went from number six to number eight, while Sri Lanka and West Indies moved one spot up each.

Their rating points are currently 76, which are the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the test rankings since 1965, apart from the period when they did not have a place in the rankings owing to an insufficient number of games.

Bangladesh remain at number nine in the test rankings.

Masood’s team have suffered a dip on the ICC WTC points table as well. They are placed eighth in the WTC 2023-25 standings and are all but out of the race to the final.

On the other hand, Bangladesh moved up to number four and are alive in the race for next year’s final.

Pakistan have three more test series lined up in this cycle – two away tests against South Africa, three tests against England and two against West Indies at home.

They have failed to win any of their last 10 home tests, losing six and drawing four. Their last home test victory came in February 2021.
