ICC U19 World Cup 2024: List of teams who have qualified for the semi-finals

Semi-finals round of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 will begin on 6th February.

As the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 enters its business end, the excitement is palpable for the semi-finals and the final of the tournament. Over the course of 23 days, the tournament saw the capabilities of 16 teams, engaging fans with a total of 45 thrilling matches. India, with a rich history in the competition, stand as the most successful team, boasting five U19 World Cup victories.

In a departure from the usual format, this edition witnessed a slight change, adding a layer of unpredictability to the proceedings. The Super Six round, which kicked off on January 30th, saw 12 teams battling it out in two groups, intensifying the competition and narrowing down the contenders for the coveted title.

The top three teams from each group earned their ticket to the Super Six round, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown. USA, Namibia, Scotland and Afghanistan were the four teams who couldn’t even qualify for the Super Six round.

Teams were grouped into two Super Six groups, each consisting of six contenders and were battling it out for the race to semi-finals. According to the fixtures, four teams out of the 12 teams advanced for the semi-finals. Let’s have a look at all four teams who have qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.

1. India U19 :

India’s journey in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 has been nothing short of dominance, showcasing their skills on the international stage. In Group A, they left an indelible mark, winning all three matches with convincing performances. Their victories against Bangladesh, Ireland and United States were marked by substantial margins, underlining their strength and depth in the squad.

Transitioning to the Super Six stage, India continued their winning streak. Facing New Zealand and Nepal in Group 1, the young Indian team emerged triumphant in both encounters, further solidifying their status as formidable contenders. Their triumphs, with substantial margins of 214 and 132 runs respectively, underscored their all-round excellence.

Finishing as table-toppers in Group A and maintaining an unbeaten record in Super Six Group 1, India’s path to the semi-finals comes as no surprise. As the most successful team in U19 World Cup history, their quest for lifting the trophy remains formidable, and their consistent, dominating performances throughout the tournament position them as strong favorites in the upcoming semi-final clash.

2. Australia U19 :

Australia’s journey in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 has been marked by resilience and impressive performances. In Group C, they showed their dominance with three consecutive victories. The team exhibited their mettle by overcoming Namibia, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka with victories that showcased both skill and determination.

Moving forward to the Super Six stage, Australia faced England and West Indies in Group 2. Despite a rain-affected match against England, Australia emerged victorious with a 110-run win, showcasing adaptability in challenging conditions. Unfortunately, their encounter with West Indies ended with no result, they have seven points and have qualified for the semis. As they gear up for the knockout stages, Australia’s young talents bring a blend of skill and resilience, making them formidable contenders in the quest for the U19 World Cup trophy.

3. South Africa U19 :

South Africa’s journey in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 has been characterized by resilience and determination. In Group B, they faced West Indies, England and Scotland in challenging encounters. South Africa started their campaign on a positive note, securing a hard-fought victory against West Indies. Despite a setback against England due to the DLS method, they bounced back with a convincing win over Scotland, showcasing their ability to overcome challenges.

Advancing to the Super Six stage, South Africa continued their winning momentum. Facing Zimbabwe, the team secured a comfortable victory with a nine-wicket margin, demonstrating their clinical approach. In their encounter against Sri Lanka, South Africa displayed both batting abilities and bowling excellence, clinching a commanding 119-run win. As they gear up for the semi-finals, South Africa’s U19 team stands as a formidable contender, ready to make a mark in the latter part of the tournament.

4. Pakistan:

Pakistan became the fourth team to qualify for the semi-final round of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. Pakistan had a tough final Super Six game against Bangladesh in Benoni. They won the virtual quarter-final game against Bangladesh by a narrow margin of just 5 runs. Pakistan successfully defended their low total of 155 runs and dismissed Bangladesh for 150. Pakistan will be taking on Australia in the semifinal round on 8th February.

Pakistan U19 had a terrific campaign so far and remained unbeaten in the tournament. Pakistan opened their U19 campaign against Afghanistan and won by a massive margin of 181 runs. Pakistan were placed in the Super Six round in Group 1 along with India, Bangladesh, Ireland, New Zealand and Nepal where they faced Ireland and Bangladesh. Pakistan defeated Ireland and Bangladesh in the Super Six round. They will be aiming at their third U19 World Cup title.
