ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 lead

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 commenced on September 30 with a game between India and Sri Lanka.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 kicked off on Tuesday, September 30, with the opening game between co-hosts India Women and Sri Lanka Women at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The tournament will witness a battle among eight teams for the title.

The opening game between India and Sri Lanka was hampered by the weather as rain stopped the play within an hour of its start. Due to rain, the players had to leave the field after playing just 10 overs. Later, the match was also reduced to 48 overs per side.

Notably, due to the late departure of the monsoon in India, many cities are still experiencing rainfall. Hence, there is a possible risk that the upcoming games of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 might affected by rain. India and Sri Lanka are jointly hosting the tournament, with four venues in India and one in Sri Lanka scheduled to host the games.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025: Is there a reserve day for league stage matches?

Notably, there is no reserve day for league stage matches of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. However, there is a reserve day for all knockout games – two semi-finals and the final. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with each team facing other opponents once during the league stage.

All attempts will be made to complete the matches in the league stage. The overs will be shortened and the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method will come into effect when a game is affected by rain. However, both teams need to bat at least 20 overs in each match to produce a result. If 20 overs per side isn’t possible, the match will end without a result, and both the teams will be awarded with one point each.

Meanwhile, ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 will conclude with the final on November 2. Eight teams who are taking part in the tournament are – India Women, Sri Lanka Women, Pakistan Women, Bangladesh Women, Australia Women, New Zealand Women, England Women, and South Africa Women.
