The ICC also confirmed the qualification cut-off date of Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

On July 22, 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the expansion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to 16 teams in the 2030 edition.

The ICC has taken this massive step to show commitment towards equity between the men’s and women’s games. The inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup was held in 2009, with eight teams participating in the tournament. However, in the 2010 edition, the tournament was expanded to ten teams.

This year’s edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will also see ten teams – Bangladesh, India, England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Scotland – before it gets expanded to 12 teams in the next edition in 2026.

During the annual ICC meeting in Colombo, the ICC stated that they continued to dedicate themselves to growing women’s cricket on a global scale.

“ICC reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of women’s cricket in the latest Board meeting, highlighting strategic initiatives to elevate the women’s game on a global scale,” the Board said in a statement.
