ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Top 5 oldest players to participate in the tournament

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be played from October 3 to October 20 in the UAE.

The ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup got underway on October 3 and will run until October 20. Originally, this competition was supposed to be held in Bangladesh, but due to the civil and political unrest in the country, the marquee tournament was shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

10 teams are taking part in the competition. They are divided into two groups of five each. Top two teams from each group will enter the semi-finals.

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will see plenty of experienced players take part in it. For some, this could be their last Women’s T20 World Cup as well, given their age.

On that note, let’s look at the top five oldest cricketers participating in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

5. Afy Fletcher (West Indies) – 37y, 200d

West Indies bowler Afy Fletcher made her WT20I debut in 2008 against New Zealand. Since then, the leg-spinner has played 82 WT20Is till now, in which she has taken 73 wickets at an economy of 5.98.

Fletcher was also part of West Indies’ ICC Women’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2016 when they defeated Australia in the final. She is one of the oldest players participating in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

4. Nida Dar (Pakistan) – 37y, 275d

Nida Dar is regarded as one of the greatest women’s cricketers ever. Since her T20I debut in 2010, Nida has been a constant face in the Pakistan team. Dar was the first Pakistani woman to pick 100 wickets in the WT20Is.

The 37-year-old Nida has played 157 WT20I matches till now and has claimed 143 wickets at an economy of 5.69. With the bat, Nida has scored 2044 runs, including seven half-centuries. She is the fourth-oldest cricketer to take part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

3. Chedean Nation (West Indies) – 37y, 338d

West Indies’ middle-order batter Chedean Nation is the third oldest cricketer to participate in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The 37-year-old was also part of the Women’s T20 World Cup editions in 2018, 2020, and 2023.

The wicket-keeper batter has scored 552 runs in 54 WT20I matches, including two half-centuries.

2. Inoka Ranaweera (Sri Lanka) – 38y, 228d

Sri Lanka’s veteran cricketer Inoka Ranaweera is the second-oldest player to take part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The 38-year-old spinner has played 82 WT20Is and picked up 91 wickets for the Sri Lanka women’s team. This could be her last appearance at the Women’s T20 World Cup.

1. Udeshika Prabodhani (Sri Lanka) – 39y, 13d

Sri Lanka speedster Udeshika Prabodhani is the oldest player to feature in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Prabodhani is known for her sharp inswingers that have outclassed many quality batters.

The 39-year-old has played 103 T20Is till now, in which she has bagged 83 wickets at an economy of 5.48.
