ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Teams who have qualified for semi-finals
Australia won all their four Group A matches in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to enter its last phase and the best four teams – two from each of the two groups – of the competition will feature in the knockouts.
The 10 teams were divided into two groups of five teams each, wherein each side played four games. The top two teams from each group proceed to the semi-finals.
The first semi-final, featuring defending champions Australia, will be played on Thursday, October 17, in Dubai. The second semi-final, featuring New Zealand, will be played on Friday, October 18, in Sharjah. The final is slated for October 20 in Dubai.
Here are the four teams who have qualified for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024:
1. Australia
The Australian women’s team seem to can’t stop winning matches in ICC tournaments. Even under new captain Alyssa Healy, they have continued on the dominance that was the highlight of Meg Lanning’s tenure.
In Group A, Australia won all their four matches. They defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets, New Zealand by 60 runs, Pakistan by nine wickets and India by nine runs.
Australia, however, have injury concerns ahead of the semi-finals with captain Healy missing the India game and fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck ruled out of the rest of the competition.
Nonetheless, Australia, who have won the last three ICC Women’s T20 World Cups, are the favourites to clinch yet another trophy.
2. New Zealand
New Zealand were the second team from Group A to seal their semi-final berth. They started their campaign with a thumping win by 58 runs over India, but suffered a setback during the 60-run loss to Australia.
However, the Black Ferns bounced back with two consecutive wins, hammering Sri Lanka by eight wickets and Pakistan by 54 runs to enter the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
3. West Indies
West Indies became the first team from Group B to qualify for the semi-finals after defeating England in their last group fixture. West Indies defeated England after a gap of 13 WT20Is. Their win by six wickets helped them qualify for the semi-finals and knock out England from the competition. West Indies, who have made it to the semi-finals of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup after a gap of five years, will face New Zealand in the second semi-final on Friday, 18th October.
4. South Africa
With West Indies’ win over England in the last group stage fixture of the tournament, South Africa became second team from Group B to qualify for the semi-finals. They won three matches out of four they played in the group stage. They will now face Group A table-toppers Australia in the first semi-final on Thursday, 17th October.
