Pakistan have slipped to the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings.

Pakistan suffered a shambolic defeat by an innings and 47 runs against England in the opening test match of the three-match series at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on October 11.

Batting first, hosts Pakistan made a good score of 556 after opener Abdullah Shafique (102), skipper Shan Masood (151) and Agha Salman (104*) slammed centuries. For England, left-arm spinner Jack Leach bagged three wickets in the first innings.

In reply, England hammered 823-7d, courtesy of Joe Root’s 262-run knock and Harry Brook’s mammoth innings of 317 runs. The duo of Root and Brook stitched a huge partnership of over 400 runs against a potent Pakistan bowling attack.

In Pakistan’s second innings, the hosts crumbled at 82/6 at one stage. However, Agha Salman (63) and Aamer Jamal (55*) played fighting knocks, before the side was bundled out for 220 runs and lost the match by an innings and 47 runs. Harry Brook was named Player of the Match for his outstanding triple century.
