Bangladesh dropped to bottom of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table after losing the first test against West Indies by 201 runs.
The first game of the two-match test series between West Indies and Bangladesh was played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, and as expected, West Indies went on to thrash the visitors by a massive margin of 201 runs to take an unassailable lead in the series.
The difference between the two teams was the contrasting batting performance in the first innings. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first in overcast conditions. But, they couldn’t use the conditions well.
West Indies had some great contributions, and Justin Greaves scored his maiden ton and remained unbeaten on 115 runs with four boundaries. Mikyle Louis (97) and Alick Athanaze (90) were unlucky and got out in the nineties. West Indies declared the first innings at 450/9.
Following that, Bangladesh had another batting collapse, which has been the problem with them in recent times. Mominul (50) and Jaker Ali (53) scored fifties, and Bangladesh managed 269/9 and then daringly declared their innings, giving away a lead of 181 runs to the hosts.
Starting with already a lead of 181 runs, West Indies couldn’t add much in the second innings and managed 152 runs in 46.1 overs with Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed being the wrecker in chief with 6/64. The visitors then had a target of 334 runs to chase.
But yet again, Bangladesh’s batters let them down. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed some resilience and scored 45 runs. But, the whole team got all out for 132 runs in 38 overs and lost the game by a massive margin of 201 runs, losing the fifth consecutive test this year.
ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points Table:
The result of this game didn’t make many changes to the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table. This test was part of the ongoing ICC WTC 2023-25 cycle, but these two teams were already out of the race for the finals before the game.
The only change it made was the swapping of West Indies and Bangladesh on the table. Before this game, Bangladesh were ranked eighth, and West Indies were at the bottom of the table. After West Indies’ win, they have swapped the position.

Bangladesh are now at the bottom, while West Indies are at eighth position. India, after beating Australia in Perth, are at the top with PCT of 61.11, followed by Australia (57.69 PCT), Sri Lanka (55.56 PCT), New Zealand (54.55 PCT), and South Africa (54.17 PCT). These five teams are in a race to reach the ICC WTC 2023-25 final.
