India are still at the top of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings.

New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner’s 13 wickets in the match helped his side hammer Team India by 113 runs in the Pune test. With this victory, the Black Caps took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match test series.

The Tom Latham-led side created history in Pune as they broke India’s 12-year winning streak in test cricket at home. The hosts lost their first home test series since 2012. During this period, the Asian Giants had won 18 consecutive test series at their den.

New Zealand scored 259 runs in the first innings on a spin-friendly Pune track. All-rounder Washington Sundar bagged a seven-wicket haul for the hosts. In reply, India were blown away for just 156 runs as left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner picked up seven wickets for the Black Caps.

In New Zealand’s second innings, skipper Tom Latham played a gutsy knock of 86 runs, which guided New Zealand to 255. The visitors then set a massive target of 359 runs for India.

While chasing, Yashasvi Jaiswal (77) and Ravindra Jadeja (42) played fighting knocks. However, India surrendered against Santner’s spin bowling masterclass. The left-arm spinner produced a match-winning spell and bagged six wickets in 29 overs.

The Tom Latham-led side crushed India by 113 runs in the Pune test and the Kiwis sealed the series. The third test will be played in Mumbai from November 1.
