6. New Zealand – 3 wins

New Zealand have only three wins out of 38 matches against India in India in test cricket. The Kiwis have struggled historically on the Indian pitches. With 17 losses and 17 draws in a total of 38 games, they have rarely found success in India.

New Zealand broke their 36-year test win drought in India in Bengaluru in 2024, defeating the Asian giants by eight wickets.

5. South Africa – 5 wins

South Africa have tasted some success in India in test cricket, with five wins in 19 games. Their last test win in India came in 2010 in Nagpur when Dale Steyn tormented the Indian batting lineup with reverse swing.

In India, South Africa have a record of five wins and 11 losses in 19 tests, while three games between these two teams ended in a draw.

4. Pakistan – 5 wins

Arch-rivals Pakistan have five victories to their name in India in test cricket. In 33 home tests against Pakistan, India have won seven matches, while as many as 21 tests were drawn.

Because of the political tensions between the two nations, they don’t play bilateral series anymore. The last time India hosted Pakistan in test cricket was in 2007.

3. West Indies – 14 wins

West Indies are the only team in the world who have registered more test match wins in India than they have conceded defeats.

In 47 encounters, West Indies have defeated India on 14 occasions, lost 13 times, and drawn 20 games. The dominance of the West Indian team during the 1970s and 1980s has a major role in their excellent record in India.

2. Australia – 14 wins

Australia have defeated India in India 14 times in test cricket. Australia’s last triumph over India came in 2023 in at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium, when the Aussies defeated the Asian giants by nine wickets.

In 54 test meetings between these two cricketing super-powers in India, Australia have 14 wins, whereas India have defeated the Kangaroos on 23 occasions, and 16 matches between the two sides have ended in a draw.

1. England – 15 wins

England have been the most successful touring team against India. With 15 test victories on Indian soil, England boast a good overall record in this part of the world. In 69 test matches in India, England have been involved in 28 draws while losing on 26 occasions.

England’s last series win in India in test cricket came in 2012 when Alastair Cook’s men thrashed India 2-1. After that, India went on an 18-series winning streak at home spanning 12 years.
