How does ICC WTC 2023-25 points table look like after Pakistan, Bangladesh get penalised
Pakistan have slipped to the eighth position in the ICC WTC 2023-25 points table.
After the conclusion of the first test between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, both teams now have been penalised for slow over rates. They were not only fined a portion of the match fees, but also lost important ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points.
The competition in the ICC WTC 2023-25 is now getting intense with plenty of important test series lined up from August to January. Hence, the deduction of points for slow over rate is a big blow to both Pakistan and Bangladesh, especially with both of them already lying in the bottom part of the points table.
Pakistan docked six WTC points, Bangladesh lose three points
The ICC confirmed on Monday that Pakistan were found six overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, and Bangladesh were three overs short.
Hence, Pakistan were docked six points and Bangladesh three points as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, which states that a team is penalised one point for each over short.
Further, as per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states that players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, the Pakistani players copped 30 per cent of their match fee and the Bangladeshi players received a 15 per cent match fee fine.
In the updated ICC WTC 2023-25 points table, Pakistan are in the eighth position, just above the bottom-placed West Indies. They have only 16 points and 22.22 PCT (percentage of points won out of the total number of points contested). Bangladesh are in the seventh position with 21 points and 31.25 PCT.
India and Australia lead the table with PCT of 68.52 and 62.5 respectively. They are followed by New Zealand and England. Sri Lanka and South Africa are in the middle of the table and still alive in the race to the final.
