ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points Table after 1st test, Australia vs Pakistan 2023
Australia defeated Pakistan by 360 runs in Perth to register their 3rd win in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
Pakistan were crushed by Australia in the first test played at Optus Stadium in Perth. Australia have defeated Pakistan by a huge margin of 360 runs and took a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series. A dominant Australian bowling attack dismissed Pakistan for 89 runs in the 4th innings of the game. Pakistan lost their final four wickets in just three overs to give Australia a big respite in the ICC WTC points table.
Pakistan’s loss also made a big change in the ICC World Test Championship points table. Team India rose to the top with 66.67 PCT points in 2 games. Team India played a two-match test series against West Indies in July and ended up winning the series 1-0. Pakistan now have slipped to second place with 66.67 PCT points in 3 games. Pakistan had 24 points before the start of the series but a loss in Perth moved them down to one place.
Australia affirmed their position at 5th spot, but they bettered their PCT points number with a massive win over Pakistan. Australia’s PCT stands at 41.67 after 6 test matches with 30 overall points. Australia played the Ashes before the home series against Pakistan. Australia earned 18 points from the Ashes series, but they also suffered with a few over-rate penalties in the points table. Australia will be looking to gain big from the ongoing series.
Bangladesh ranked above Australia
New Zealand remain 3rd in the points table with 50 PCT points in 2 test matches with 12 overall points. Bangladesh are 4th with 50 PCT points and 12 overall points. New Zealand and Bangladesh drew the test series 1-1 earlier this month. West Indies are 6th in the points table with only 16.67 PCT points and 4 overall points. West Indies drew the first test against India and opened their account in the points table earlier this year.
England are struggling in the table with only 15 PCT points and 9 overall points. Despite winning two games in the series, England were dealt with a huge blow due to penalty points deducted to slow over-rate offences in the Ashes 2023. England are placed 7th in the table, while Sri Lanka are yet to open their account. South Africa will be opening their campaign against India at Super Sports Park in Centurion on Boxing Day. The second test between Australia and Pakistan will be played at MCG from Boxing Day.
