After the loss, New Zealand have slipped from the top position in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points Table.

Team India have reached the top of the ICC WTC 2023-25 points table after Australia’s dominant win over New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Australia started off with a big 172-run win in the two-match series. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon’s six-wicket haul helped Australia bounce back nicely after the shock loss they suffered against a spirited West Indian side at the Gabba.

Nathan Lyon’s 6/65 spell gave New Zealand zero respite in their big chase at the Basin Reserve. New Zealand required 369 runs to win, but the Kiwi batters managed to score only 196 in the last innings. Apart from Rachin Ravindra (59) and Daryl Mitchell (38) partnership, none was able to stand against the Australian bowling lineup. The second test will start from 8th March at Hagley Oval.
