New Zealand have solidified their top spot in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table.

Kane Williamson’s splendid hundred at the Seddon Park, Hamilton on day four has helped New Zealand create history. New Zealand have won their first ever test series against South Africa in 92 years of their cricket history. It took 18 attempts for the Blackcaps to finally beat South Africa in a test series. New Zealand have whitewashed the South African side 2-0. New Zealand easily chased down a target of 267 runs in the fourth innings to win the game by seven wickets.

Young South African bowling attack did pose a challenge against Blackcaps in the first innings. Dane Piedt’s five wicket haul helped South Africa take a crucial lead of 31 runs. South Africa scored 235 runs in the second innings with middle-order batter David Bedingham (110) scoring his maiden test ton. The Kiwis required 267 runs in the fourth innings to win their first-ever test series against South Africa. Kane Williamson (133) and Will Young (60) with a unbeaten 152 runs stand for the fourth wicket won the game for NZ.

With two back-to-back victories, New Zealand have consolidated their position in the ICC WTC 2023-25 points table. Blackcaps are placed top of the table with 75 PCT points. New Zealand have played four test matches and won three games. New Zealand have 36 overall points from 48 contested. New Zealand have played two test series in the ongoing cycle so far. They will be taking on Australia in their next WTC 2023-25 assignment. NZ will be taking on Australia in Trans-Tasman Trophy starting on 29th February.

South Africa slipped to eighth position in the points table after two consecutive losses in the two-match series against New Zealand. This was South Africa’s third loss in the four test matches they played in the ongoing cycle. South Africa have 25 PCT points in their campaign so far. South Africa have managed to win only one game in the ongoing cycle and they have only 12 overall points out of 48 contested in four games. South Africa will play West Indies in the Sir Viv Richards Trophy in August 2024.

Australia are placed second in the points table with 55 PCT points. India are positioned third in the points table with 52.77 PCT points. Bangladesh are fourth with 50 PCT points. Pakistan remain fifth with 36.66 PCT points. West Indies had a historical win over Australia at Gabba, they are placed sixth in the table with 33.33 PCT points. England and South Africa are placed 7th and 8th respectively with 25 PCT points. Sri Lanka yet to open their account.
