The Australian Cricket Team had a brilliant start to the Ashes 2025-26 as they defeated the England Cricket Team by eight wickets. The match between the two teams took place at the Perth Stadium in Perth and saw Australia extending their dominance in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.
England won the toss and opted to bat but things didn’t go their way as they had a terrible batting performance. They got all out for just 172 runs with Harry Brook (52) and Ollie Pope (46) being the two top run-getters. With the ball, Mitchell Starc was the hero as he took seven wickets with the ball.
Australia were expected to take a big lead in the first innings but that too wasn’t possible as England’s bowlers were all over the opposition. They bundled out Australia for just 132, taking a lead of 40 runs with captain Ben Stokes taking a brilliant fifer.
England then again had a terrible collapse. At one stage, they were 65 for one with Ben Duckett (28) and Ollie Pope (33) looking good. However, after that English wickets fell like a pack of cards as they were left reeling at 104 for seven.
Gus Atkinson (37) played a vital hand along with Brydon Carse (20) as England got all out for just 164, setting a target of 205 runs. It seemed that it would be a tough but Travis Head made a mockery of the chase, slamming a blistering 123. Marnus Labuschagne also hit a 51* as Australia won the match with 8 wickets in hand.
