Australia beat England in the last Test of Ashes 2025-26 to win the series 4-1 and bag important ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 points.

Steve Smith-led Australia side beat England by five wickets in last game of the Ashes 2025-26 to seal the series by a 4-1 margin. England had set the hosts 160 to win on day five of the final Test match, which was being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday.

Jacob Bethell and Matthew Potts came out to bat on day five, for England with the score reading 302 for eight. The ninth wicket stand between the pair was worth 31 as Bethell was out after scoring career best 154 which came off 265 balls with 15 fours.

Mitchell Starc picked the final two wickets of the innings to end with 31 wickets for the series. Chasing the target of 160, Australia got off to a great start thanks to their openers Jake Weatherald (34) and Travis Head (29) adding 62 runs for opening stand. Josh Tongue dismissed both batters in a space of nine runs to put pressure on the hosts.

Marnus Labuschagne was the best batter for Australia in the second innings with his 37 coming off 40 balls. Cameron Green (22*) and Alex Carey with 16 not out added unbroken 40-runs for the sixth wicket to guide the home team to five wicket win. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey hit the winning runs for his side just before the tea break.

ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 winners Australia have seen their lead at the WTC table grow significantly with the win on Thursday. Australia, now have 84 points from eight games with a win percentage of 87.5.

Inaugural ICC WTC winner New Zealand are second with 28 points from 3 games with win percentage of 77.78%. The Black Caps had beaten West Indies at home recently to kick off their WTC cycle in style.

Ben Stokes and his England side are seventh in the table with 38 points from 10 games with a win percentage of 31.67%. Two-time WTC finalists India are sixth in the table with 52 points from nine games with win percentage of 48.15%.

Current ICC WTC holders South Africa are third in the table with 36 points from four games with 75%-win rate. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are fourth and fifth in the table, while Bangladesh and West Indies occupy the bottom to spots in the ICC WTC 2025-27 table.
