ICC WTC Final, AUS vs IND: Australia players ratings

Australia defeated India by a huge margin of 209 runs in the ICC WTC 2023 final.

Australia won the World Test Championship Final (WTC Final) on Sunday, after dominating the Indian team right from the word go. Batting first, Australia made 469 in the 1st innings, thanks to centuries from Steve Smith and Travis Head.

In return, Ajinkya Rahane's rescue knock of 89 took India to 296. Australia then declared at 270/8, setting India a massive target of 444. India crumbled during the chase. They managed to score only 234 in return.

As a result, Australia managed to pull off a 209-run victory on the final day of the Test match, handing India their second successive WTC Final loss. On the way to this memorable victory, the Australian team had stand-out performers. Starting from Steve Smith to Nathan Lyon, almost everyone did their job well and helped Australia to win yet another ICC title.

Here, we rate and slate the WTC Final Champions, Australia following their massive victory:

David Warner - 4

David Warner began the Test with an entertaining 60-ball 43 in the first innings. However, he couldn't continue his form and fell for just 1(8) in the second innings. Notably, he got out caught behind in both innings of the WTC final.

Usman Khawaja - 2

Usman Khawaja had a forgettable World Test Championship Final. The opener got out for a duck in the first innings. He managed to score just 13 runs in the second innings. He was also got out caught behind in both occasions of the WTC final match.

Marnus Labuschagne - 5

Marnus Labuschagne began the first innings well. He notched up 26 runs before being cleaned up by Mohammed Shami. In the second innings, the openers fell early and it was Labuschagne, who made sure to steady the innings. The top-order batter made 41 from 126 deliveries.

Steve Smith - 8.5

Steve Smith was outstanding in the first innings. He scored a brilliant 121 from 268 deliveries, added a century partnership with Travis Head as well. Smith is one of the major reasons for Australia's win. He added 34 runs in the second innings of the WTC final as well.

Travis Head was the leading run-scorer of the Test. The middle-order batter smashed 25 fours and a six for his 163. He was striking at 93.68. Head got out for 18 runs in the second innings but he had a couple of sixes before he got out.

Alex Carey - 8

Alex Carey's cameos provided the necessary cushion for the Australian team. He made 48 runs in the first innings and added 66* runs in the second. His partnership with Mitchell Starc shifted the momentum in the favour of Australia on Day 4. Apart from that, he also did an excellent job with the gloves.

Mitchell Starc - 6

Mitchell Starc dismissed two Indian batters in the first innings, one of them was Virat Kohli. In the second innings, Ajinkya Rahane's wicket proved crucial for Australia. Apart from that, he played an excellent hand in the second innings, scoring 41 from 57 deliveries.

Cameron Green - 6

Cameron Green had a forgettable outing with the bat, scoring just around 30 in his two innings. However, he impressed with his fielding and bowling. Green grabbed four wickets in the Test.

Nathan Lyon - 7

Nathan Lyon bowled just 4 overs in the first innings. He dismissed Ravindra Jadeja. In the second, Lyon played a major role by dismissing four Indian batters.

Scott Boland - 7.5

Scott Boland ended the final as one of the leading wicket-takers of the game. Boland grabbed two wickets in the first innings and three in the second. He dismissed Kohli when he was 49.

Pat Cummins - 6

Pat Cummins need special appreciation for the way he handled his players. However, with the ball, Cummins' performance was below par for his standards. He grabbed just four wickets.
