India are currently third in the ICC WTC 2023-25 standings.

The Gabba test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 has been significantly marred by rain on all of the four days so far. Only 13.2 overs of play was possible on day 1. On day 3, 28 overs were bowled.

Multiple sessions of this test have been washed out due to persistent rain and there have been frequent breaks over the last couple of days, resulting in stop-start play and frustration for the batsmen in particular.

Australia have all but eliminated their chances of a loss after piling up 445 runs in their first innings and taking seven Indian wickets for 194 runs.

With less than a day-and-half left in the match and with scattered showers forecasted for the remaining of the test match, only two results are possible: an Australian victory and a draw.

A draw would mean both teams will have to share ICC World Test Championship points.

If the Gabba test ends in a draw, both India and Australia will get four WTC points each.

India are currently third in the ICC WTC standings with 57.29. If this test results in a draw, their PCT will drop to 55.88, denting their chances of reaching the final further.

Australia’s PCT will then go from 60.71 to 58.88. They will remain in the second position, behind South Africa, who have 63.33 and have one foot in the final.

Can India reach ICC WTC final if the Gabba test ends in a draw?

In case of a draw in Brisbane, India will be required to win their next two tests against Australia to reach the ICC WTC 2023-25 final.
