Imad Wasim missed Pakistan’s first match at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against USA.
The Babar Azam-led Pakistan have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the much-awaited India clash in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Men in Green’s star all-rounder Imad Wasim is likely to be ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to side strain injury, according to reports.
In the ongoing tournament, Babar Azam’s Pakistan started their campaign on a horrific note. The Men in Green suffered a defeat by five runs defeat against co-hosts United States of America in Dallas on June 6. It is to be noted that Wasim didn’t play the first group stage match against co-hosts USA due to side strain injury.
Notably, Pakistan all-rounder Imad was included in the T20 World Cup squad after he reversed his international retirement decision in order to play in the global tournament.
Imad Wasim being given painkillers and injections to play against India
According to the latest report by BBN, Imad hasn’t recovered from his side strain injury and is not 100% fit. The report further added that the Men in Green all-rounder was expected to be fit before the India clash, but Wasim has not recovered till yet. The two Asian giants will face each other at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9.
The BBN report also claimed that the Pakistan cricket team management wants the 35-year-old to play against arch-rivals, India. It further added that Imad is likely to be given painkillers and injections to play the high-voltage clash against Men in Blue. There is just 20% chance that the Imad will be staying with the team for the rest of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Mehran Mumtaz might replace Imad Wasim in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024
The reports further revealed that Mehran Mumtaz is all set to replace Imad in the Pakistan squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The decision to add Mumtaz is because skipper Babar and white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten want a left-arm spinner in the side. Reportedly, Meharan is at Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore and has passed his fitness test.
It is to be noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hasn’t made any official statement regarding Imad’s injury or availability for remainder of the T20 World Cup 2024.
