Virat Kohli had managed scores of only 6 and 17 in the first test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
The IND vs BAN 2nd test got underway after a delayed start of one hour at Green Park in Kanpur on Thursday. The delay of an hour was because of a wet outfield caused by the overnight rain in the city.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first, making a rare decision. The last time an Indian captain opted to field first after winning the toss in a home test match was in 2015 against South Africa in Bangalore. Further, the last time a skipper elected to bowl first in Kanpur was in 1964.
Meanwhile, a ground staff member at the Green Park in Kanpur showed his love and respect for former India captain Virat Kohli by touching his feet when Kohli strode out for some light training on the morning of the match.
Ahead of the toss, Kohli came into the ground with a bat in his hand to have a mini practice session before the game got underway.
As he was walking beside the ground staff that was holding a cover in the outfield, one member of the staff left the cover and walked toward the 35-year-old Indian superstar cricketer. He touched Kohli’s feet and the cricketer, now a little surprised, gestured with his hand before another ground staff member quickly pulled his colleague away from Kohli.

The fans, though, will have to wait to see Kohli bat as Rohit opted to bowl first.
