Yashasvi Jaiswal equaled Wasim Akram’s record of most sixes in a test innings in the Rajkot test.
The Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the main highlight of the ongoing five-match test series between India and England. The 22-year-old Jaiswal is the architect behind the hosts’ success in the ongoing test series. Currently, the Rohit Sharma-led side is leading the series 2-1 against the Ben Stokes-led side with two more games to go.
In the ongoing five-match test series against the English side, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the leading run-scorer amassing 545 runs with a superb average of 109. The 22-year-old Jaiswal has also smashed 50 fours and 22 sixes in six innings he has batted till now.
In the Vizag test match, the opener played a crucial role in helping India to a 106-run victory. In the first innings of the second test match, Jaiswal hammered a double century where none of the other Indian batters could post a fifty.
The 22-year-old stole the show during the third test match, where India won the match by 434 runs. The 22-year-old achieved multiple feats during his 214-run knock in the second innings against Ben Stokes-led England in Rajkot. Left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal showed no mercy to the English bowlers as he smashed 214* off just 236 balls with help of 14 fours and 12 sixes.
‘It’s been equaled by Yashasvi Jaiswal’: Wasim Akarm
During the second innings of the third test match, aggressive batter Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered 12 sixes during his knock of 214* runs against England. During the innings, the young batter equaled the legendary Wasim Akram’s record of hitting most sixes in a test innings (12).
Legendary pacer Wasim Akram recalled his knock in the Sheikhupura test against Zimbabwe in 1996 and also came up with a cheeky response on Jaiswal, who equaled his record. The former Pakistan player Wasim Akram hammered 12 sixes during his 257-run knock against Zimbabwe in 1996.
“My record (most sixes in an innings) wasn’t broken, it’s been equalled by Yashasvi Jaiswal. People talk a lot that it was Zimbabwe, but it wasn’t that easy. I remember we were around 170/6 when I went to bat,” Wasim Akram said on A Sports.
Meanwhile, the Indian opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, is on the verge of creating another history. The left-handed batter will eye the historic milestone of legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who smashed 700 or more runs in a bilateral test series twice in his career. With two test matches remaining in the ongoing test series against England, Jaiswal will surely aim to become the second Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar to achieve this iconic feat in test cricket.
