India are ready to take on Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series. These three matches are scheduled to take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi between September 13 and 17.
This is a crucial assignment for Team India and management. Iyer hasn’t had a good start to his captaincy stint. Under him, India suffered a clean sweep in Ireland and lost a series in England. However, India enjoyed their time in Zimbabwe, winning the series 3-0.
Iyer will be keen to win his first home T20I series as captain in front of the home crowd. Ahead of the start of Afghanistan T20Is, India have a massive boost as star all-rounder Washington Sundar has been declared fit.
Sundar suffered a hamstring injury during the ODI series in England. That ruled him out of the last T20I series in Zimbabwe and the Test series in Sri Lanka. However, he showed good progress in his rehab and was added to the T20I squad against Afghanistan.

India announced a full-strength squad for the IND vs AFG T20Is, which saw the returns of Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Reddy, and Harshit Rana after injuries. However, the BCCI clarified that these players would play only after being declared fit.
Updates on the match fitness of some players, including Bumrah, are awaited. But Sundar’s availability will strengthen the combination. The 26-year-old has been a key part of India across formats. The Indian management has shown good support for him.
With his ability to bat anywhere, he adds value to the batting unit, and his spin bowling will be crucial in the series. Speaking of Bumrah, the ace pacer is undergoing rehab in Bengaluru and is expected to undergo match simulation on September 9.
A decision on his availability will be taken after that. Harshit and Nitish have completed their respective fitness tests along with match simulations. However, the medical panel’s approval is still awaited.
If these players can return to action, Team India will have their best possible line-up. Though Hardik Pandya isn’t available due to injury, India have almost all the bases covered going forward in the IND vs AFG T20I series.
