India had a dominant outing in the first T20I against Afghanistan. The Men in Blue thrashed the hosts by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. Put into bat, Afghanistan had the worst possible start to their innings as Indian bowlers made the new ball talk.
Afghanistan lost half of their side for just 43 and it seemed that they would not even cross the 100-run mark. However, Azmatullah Omarzai (64*) and veteran Mohammad Nabi (33) bailed their team out of trouble, adding 83 runs for sixth wicket.
Omarzai ensured that he batted till the end, and slammed a solid half-century. Thanks to his innings, Afghanistan posted 156 for eight. For India, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with figures of three for 19.
Sanju Samson, who was preferred over Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, didn’t help his cause on his comeback as he got out for just ten. However, there was absolute carnage after his wicket. Abhishek Sharma (82) was at his brutal best and hit a sublime half-century.
Ishan Kishan (42) followed a similar path at the other end Sharma-Kishan duo added 121 runs for the second wicket, which broke the back of the chase. In the end, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma completed the unfinished job as India chased the target with seven wickets in hand.
