The two teams have faced each other nine times in T20Is, with India winning eight matches, while one of those matches ended without a result. Hence, Afghanistan are still searching for their first victory against the Men in Blue in T20I cricket.
Their previous encounters have included some remarkable moments. The first ever bilateral three-match T20I series between these two teams produced a dramatic end. After two straight wins for India, the final match at Bengaluru went in a super over. Eventually India prevailed in a second super over after the team remained tied in the first.
The upcoming IND vs AFG three-match series is hence the first time Afghanistan are hosting India for a bilateral series in the shortest format of the game. The contest will include many talented cricketers like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Rashid Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Afghanistan will officially host the series, but all three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi due to the security concerns in Afghanistan. The games are scheduled to start from the 13th of September, with each fixture beginning at 7:00 PM IST.

IND vs AFG: Squads
India will be led by Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma as the vice-captain. Since Shreyas took over, India have lost two of their last three T20I series, and hence, the world T20I champions will be aiming to bounce back. Several star cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar will make a comeback with these T20Is.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, will be led by skipper Ibrahim Zadran, who has been announced as the team’s full-time T20I skipper. The Afghan squad includes several players who are experienced on Indian turf, like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nami, Noor Ahmed and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
