The IND vs AFG T20I series will start on September 13 in Delhi.
India and Afghanistan will face each other in a three-match T20I series in September. These three matches will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15 and 17, respectively.
This will be Shreyas Iyer‘s first home series as India’s T20I captain. For India, this is an important series as some big guns return ahead of the Asian Games 2026. Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy are returning after injuries.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson and Varun Chakravarthy are back on the side after missing the last T20I series in Zimbabwe. Ibrahim Zadran is all set to begin his full-time tenure as Afghanistan’s T20I captain, replacing Rashid Khan.
Afghanistan have a strong squad for this series. They will fancy their chances against this Indian side, which has looked a little inconsistent recently.
Sony Sports Network to broadcast the IND vs AFG T20Is
With just a few days left before the first match begins, Sony Sports Network has secured the TV rights for the IND vs AFG T20I series. Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head, Sports and International, Sony Pictures Network India, confirmed in a press release.
He said, “The Afghanistan-India T20I series further strengthens Sony Sports Network’s cricket portfolio and adds another exciting contest to our ongoing ‘Festival of Sports’ offering.”
Under Iyer, India are finding their feet and consistency in this format. India suffered a clean sweep against Ireland and lost the series in England. Although they recorded a clean sweep in Zimbabwe, Iyer and Co. will hope to win this home series.
Following Samson’s return, it will be interesting to see whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi still gets a chance to open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma. Afghanistan will rely on their experienced players in Indian conditions.
Rashid Khan will lead the spin attack, alongside Noor Ahmed, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, and N Kharoti. Moreover, Naveen-ul-Haq is also making a comeback after December 2024.
