The second IND vs AUS test will be a day-night contest in Adelaide.

In Perth, in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, the Australian cricket team received a shocking drubbing at the hands of Team India, who headed into this series with a 0-3 home whitewash at the hands of New Zealand and got bundled for only 150 runs in their first innings.

The 295-run defeat was the first test match loss for Australia at the Optus Stadium as India breached another fortress.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal made starring contributions to the victory. Australia didn’t gain a lot of positives barring Josh Hazlewood’s first-innings spell and Travis Head’s second-innings fifty.

The second IND vs AUS test match of the five-test series will be played in Adelaide. It will be a day-night affair to be played with the pink ball. Australia have great memories of their previous such encounter against India, when they bundled out the visitors for only 36 runs in 2020.

While India are set to be boosted by the return of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill (likely), Australia could miss a couple of first-choice players in Adelaide, having already missed Cameron Green for the entire series.

IND vs AUS: Australian Cricket Team playing 11 for 2nd test against India, Adelaide, BGT 2024-25 – Predicted

1. Usman Khawaja

Khawaja had two single-digit scores in Perth – 8 and 4. He was dismissed once by Bumrah and once by Siraj, both times outside edging to the men behind.

With the inexperienced Nathan McSweeney at one end, Australia would want Khawaja to bat time and see off the new ball spells of the Indian seamers

2. Nathan McSweeney

Nathan McSweeney had a horrific start to his test career. On a spicy Perth pitch, he faced a serious spells from the Indian pacers.

Bumrah had him in both innings for 10 and 0. He is expected to retain his position in the IND vs AUS Adelaide test.

3. Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is facing plenty of scrutiny and questions have been raised on his position in the side from all corners. He’s in a slump in recent games: in his last five tests, he averaged only 13.66 with one fifty in 10 innings.

In Perth, he avoided playing deliveries outside the off-stump, scoring 2 (52) in the first innings, and then shouldered arms to an incoming delivery in the second innings, in which he was dismissed lbw for only three runs.

4. Steve Smith

Steve Smith’s move back to the No. 4 position from the opening spot didn’t bring him instant success this time.

In the first innings in Perth, Bumrah had him for a golden duck via lbw. In the second innings, he edged Siraj to Pant for 17 runs. Australia would desperately want their best batsman to produce a big knock in Adelaide.

5. Travis Head

Despite losing wickets at the other end, Head continued to play his natural counter-attacking style in Perth. He scored 11 (13) and 89 (101), adding more frustration to the Indian team and Indian fans.

Head’s aggressive batting could be pivotal in the day-night test in Adelaide.

6. Beau Webster

Tasmania all-rounder Beau Webster could be in line for a test debut in the 2nd BGT 2024-25 test match in Adelaide. Mitchell Marsh pulled up sore after the Perth test, where he bowled 17 overs, the most he’s bowled in a test match in three years.

Marsh is not yet ruled out, but considering the back-to-back scheduling of the next two tests, the hosts might give him more time to recover for the Brisbane and MCG tests.

Webster has been in good form in the past couple of years, averaging 53 with the bat and 31 with the ball. Recently, against India A, he took seven wickets at 19.57 and played two unbeaten innings in successful run chases.

7. Alex Carey (wk)

Carey did well in Perth, recording scores of 21 and 36. He has averaged 33 this year and has been Australia’s first-choice keeper-batsman in test cricket since replacing former skipper Tim Paine in the 2021/22 Ashes.

8. Pat Cummins (C)

Captain Pat Cummins has been put straight under the pump in his first home BGT test series as a skipper as his side has gone behind 0-1 and suffered a huge defeat.

Cummins, too, didn’t have a great game in Perth, managing figures of 2/67 & 1/86. He remains one of the best pacers in the world and would be keen to bounce back in Adelaide.

9. Mitchell Starc

The destroyer of the cricket stumps, Starc had contrasting performances in the two innings in Perth. In India’s first innings, with the pitch being green and under overcast conditions, he picked two wickets for only 14 runs.

But in India’s second innings, as the pitch got better for batting, taking a brownish color with the sun out, Starc leaked 111 runs for only one wicket.

Starc has been Australia’s spearhead bowler for years, giving them wickets with the new ball. In Adelaide, the hosts would be hoping for the left-arm seamer to be at his best in both of India’s innings.

10. Nathan Lyon

In Perth, Lyon had a forgettable game. In India’s first innings, though he bowled only five overs, he was taken for 23 runs, which proved to be crucial as India took a slender first-innings lead of 46 runs.

In India’s second innings, Lyon had better control but took only two wickets in 39 overs.

11. Scott Boland

Scott Boland is likely to replace Josh Hazlewood in Australia’s playing XI in the 2nd IND vs AUS test as Hazlewood is ruled out from the Adelaide game due to a side strain.

Boland has an excellent record in Australia: 28 wickets in six tests at an average of only 12.21. He took five wickets against India in the ICC WTC 2021-23 final.
