Australia trial by 176 runs after day 1 of the IND vs AUS fifth test in Sydney.
The first day of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test in Sydney saw the ball dominate the bat. While 11 wickets fell on the day in 75 overs, it were the body blows endured by the batsmen that stood out as the highlight of the day.
After opting to bat first, India posted only 185 runs in their first innings. Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja added a 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Jasprit Bumrah scored a quickfire 22 off 17 balls.
Scott Boland led the Australian bowling attack with a four-wicket haul, while Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins contributed with three and two wickets respectively.
The most dramatic moment of the day came in the final over when Sam Konstas riled up Jasprit Bumrah before the speedster dismissed Usman Khawaja on the last ball of the day. The Indian team was pumped up in their celebration towards Konstas and sledged him to end the day high on confidence.
At stumps on day 1 at the SCG, Australia are 9/1, trialing by 176 runs.
