India managed to avoid follow-on on day 4 of the IND vs AUS Gabba test.
While Australia kept their noses ahead in the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test in Brisbane, India took solace in the fact that they managed to avoid the follow-on. But, that they did with the help of a 39-run unbeaten partnership from No. 10 and No 11, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep, further indicated the struggles of their top-order batsme.
India lost captain Rohit Sharma at the start of the day, but KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja formed a solid 67-run partnership. Rahul departed for 84 before Jadeja formed a 53-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Jadeja scored 77 as India lost three quick wickets to slump to 213/9, with 33 runs still needed to avoid the follow-on. Bumrah and Deep then produced a terrific fightback against the Australian bowling attack that lacked the injured Josh Hazlewood took take India to safety.
A maximum of 98 overs can be bowled on day 5, though it’s unlikely with the weather forecast of 90% probability of precipitation. A draw is now the most likely result.
