The visitors are in complete control of the 1st IND vs AUS test in Perth.
Day 2 of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) test match in Perth was a dream day for India, one where they have put themselves in the driver’s seat to push for a victory over the next two days.
Towards the end of the day, the pitch misbehaved a bit, which is actually a good sign for the visitors as they will be bowling last on this surface and are poised to give Australia a target in excess of at least 350 if not over 400.
In reply to India’s first innings total of 150, Australia started the day at 67/7 and added 37 more to their overnight score, folding for 104 runs and conceding a first-innings deficit of 46 runs.
Then, Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to bat and batted determinedly to not edge behind this time while take a full toll on the loose deliveries.
The pitch looked green on day 1, but it bore a brownish look by the second session of day 2 as the sun baked it, reducing the seam movement significantly compared to India’s first innings.
The two openers remained steadfast and stuck to their plans and methods. Both of them raised their half-centuries and remained unbeaten at the end of the day. Jaiswal scored 90* (193) with seven fours and two sixes. Rahul scored 62* (153) with four fours.
By stumps on day 2 in Perth, India are 172/0, which effectively is 218/0. 17 wickets had fallen on day 1, but only three wickets – all three Australian – fell on day 2.
With fast bowlers operating throughout the day from at least one end, once again the extra 30 minutes of the day were required. Still, 158 overs have been bowled in two days, well short of the 180 overs mark.
