The fifth IND vs AUS fifth T20I at The Gabba, Brisbane was washed out due to rain.
The fifth T20I between Indian Cricket Team and Australian Cricket Team was washed out due to rain, marking a disappointing end to the series. The encounter, which was played at The Gabba in Brisbane, could only witness 4.5 overs of India’s batting. Indian openers Abhishek Sharma (23*) and Shubman Gill (29*) gave a quick-fire start with the bat, adding 52 runs after Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Following the wash-out at The Gabba, the five-match series went in the favour of Suryakumar Yadav & Co by a margin of 2-1. After the opening game in Canberra was washed out due to rain, the Australia won the second clash by four wickets in Melbourne. However, the Men in Blue made a fantastic comeback in the next two games, winning by five wickets and 48 runs respectively.
The fifth T20I was expected to be a thrilling clash as Australia needed a win to avoid a series defeat, however, the weather thwarted their plans of a comeback. Abhishek Sharma, who finished as the leading run-scorer with 163 runs, was awarded Player of the Series.
Dream come true moment if I’ll be playing the T20 World Cup: Abhishek Sharma

After winning the Player of the Series award, Abhishek thanked captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir for supporting his aggressive style of play. He also said that he wants to play for India in ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
“I’ve been waiting for this tournament. When I got to know we’re going to Australia for T20Is, I was very excited. Have seen throughout my career that Australia is very batting friendly. Feel that we could’ve got better totals in between,” he said.
“Special mention to captain and coach, they’ve given me this responsibility to just go and express myself. I feel as a batter, when you’re scoring 20s and 30s, it’s not easy for you as well because you know you can go longer. But the clarity they’ve given me to set the momentum for the team, that’s what I’ve been practicing in the nets and the off-season as well,” he added.
“It’s one of the biggest tournaments. It’s my dream come true moment if I’ll be playing the World Cup. As a kid I’ve always dreamt about this – winning the World Cup. Will make sure I’m ready for that tournament,” the left-handed batter further said.
Credit to all the boys for a comeback in the series: Suryakumar Yadav

In the post-match presentation, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav credited his players for their outstanding efforts to make a comeback in the series. Speaking about India’s squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2026, he said that it will be a big headache as many players are performing well.
“The way everyone chipped in and the way we came back from 0-1 down, credit to all the boys. Was a good series with bat, ball and in the field as well. Both fast bowlers and spinners know their job very well. Bumrah-Arshdeep is a lethal combination. And then Axar, Varun coming in doing what they do best. And Washi coming in handy in the last game. They’ve played a lot of T20 cricket now, they bring a lot to the table and are backing themselves,” he said.
“Good headache to have – lots of players have been doing really well. Playing three strong teams – Australia, SA and NZ – going to be a great buildup before the World Cup. I saw recently what happened with the women’s team winning the WC in India, unbelievable support (from the crowd). Going to be a good challenge, exciting tournament, but it’s still far away. Two more series to go,” Suryakumar added.
There’s a lot of learnings to take forward: Mitchell Marsh after losing the T20I series to India

Marsh congratulated India for winning the series, saying that they won the matches when it mattered. He also added that Australia have a lot of flexibility in their squad, which is a positive thing ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. Marsh also revealed that he will captain Australia in the tournament.
“Can’t remember the last time we played and had so many rain interruptions. All in all a great series. India obviously won the games when it mattered, congratulations to them. There’s a lot of learnings to take forward. The adaptability and flexibility in our group and the squad we’re trying to build in a WC year has been amazing. Guys have come in, done really well, played their roles, that’s all we can ask for,” Marsh said.
“Always moving parts in international cricket, especially with an Ashes coming up, but overall great attitude. Our squad, at full strength, is a pretty settled team. The Big Bash is there for the guys to enjoy and hopefully the Scorchers win. Good question (who will captain in the T20 World Cup – him or Pat). I think I’ll be there,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue made a brilliant comeback in the T20I series after losing the ODI series 2-1. Their next T20I campaign is a five-match series against South Africa at home, scheduled to be played from December 9 to 19.
