IND vs BAN: 3 Bangladesh cricketers who might tour India for last time in tests
The upcoming IND vs BAN test series will be played in Chennai and Kanpur.
India and Bangladesh will compete in a two-match test series, starting on September 19, 2024. The first IND vs BAN test will be played in Chennai and the second test in Kanpur. The IND vs BAN test series 2024 is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
India will start the series as firm favourites, having won all their test series at home since 2013. However, the hosts will be wary of Bangladesh, who are coming off a maiden test series win over Pakistan.
Bangladesh’s squad consists of a few veteran cricketers, who are beyond the age of 35. For them, this could be the last test tour of India as their next test series in India isn’t scheduled for at least the next three years.
IND vs BAN: 3 Bangladesh cricketers who might tour India for the last time in tests
Shakib Al Hasan
The 37-year-old Shakib Al Hasan is in the last phase of his career. He has already skipped several test matches in the last few years to be fit and fresh for white-ball cricket. He is highly unlikely to play another test series in India after the upcoming one.
Shakib has an ordinary record against India in test cricket – batting average of 26 and bowling average of 37 in eight tests. He has played only one test in India, in 2017, in which he scored 82 runs and picked two wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim
Veteran wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim was in good touch in their recent tour of Pakistan, where he scored a match-winning 191 in the first test. He would be looking to carry his form in the India tests as well, which could well be his last test series in the country.
Rahim is 37 years of age. With India not scheduled to play Bangladesh in test cricket for at least the next couple of years, and not in India until 2027, the upcoming IND vs BAN test series is likely to be the last one for Rahim in India.
Taijul Islam
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has an ordinary record in test cricket. In 46 tests, he has picked 195 wickets at an average of 31.
33 of his 46 tests have come in Bangladesh, while in the 13 away tests, he has a poor average of 46. He didn’t get into Bangladesh’s XI in both tests in Pakistan. The 32-year-old might even be on the bench in both tests in India.
Given his poor show outside Bangladesh, Taijul may not visit India again for a test series.
