Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 66 runs in the Chennai test and created a new record in Indian test cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to go from strength to strength in his nascent test career as he broke a long-standing record of former captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar during the ongoing Chennai test against Bangladesh.

The IND vs BAN test series got underway at the Chepauk. In his two knocks, Jaiswal registered scores of 56 and 10. With this, he now holds the record for most test runs by an Indian after 10 test matches, and is fourth in world cricket, joining the likes of Sir Don Bradman and Everton Weekes on an elite list.

Yashasvi Jaiswal finishes with 1,094 runs after 10 tests, 116 runs more than Gavaskar

After 10 test matches in his brief career so far, Jaiswal has amassed 1094 runs at an average of 64.35, with the help of three centuries, two of which are double hundreds, and five fifties.

His 1094 runs are the most an Indian batter has scored in test cricket after the first 10 tests. The previous holder of this record was Gavaskar, who scored 978 runs at an average of 65, with four tons and five half-centuries.

Overall, in world cricket, Jaiswal is fourth on the list of the most runs after 10 tests.

  2. Everton Weekes (West Indies) – 1,125 runs
  3. George Headley (West Indies) – 1,102 runs
  4. Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) – 1,094 runs
  5. Mark Taylor (Australia) – 1,088 runs

The young left-hander is having a great year in test cricket. Currently, he is the second-leading test scorer in 2024, with 806 runs, behind only Joe Root, who has 986 runs and has played seven more innings than the India opener.
