Funny memes galore as IND vs CAN clash at ICC T20 World Cup 2024 gets washed out due to rain
IND vs CAN match at ICC T20 World Cup 2024 got called off in Florida without the toss taking place.
Match number 33 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, between India and Canada, was called off due to wet outfield on Saturday at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.
Even though the rain had stopped for a while, the outfield was significantly wet and damp, making it risky and untenable for any action to take place.
This is the second time in two days that a match in Florida has been abandoned without even the toss taking place. On Friday, the USA vs Ireland match was washed out.
While the IND vs CAN game was a dead rubber, as India have already qualified for the Super 8 round and Canada were eliminated from the race, the washout of Friday’s fixture had huge repercussions: USA earned one point and finished the group stage with five points, which Pakistan, who could get to a maximum of four points, can’t catch up with. This meant the USA qualified for the Super 8 round and Babar Azam’s team were knocked out of the competition.
The USA vs IRE game on Friday was regularly interrupted by rain. But since the qualification was on the line, the umpires and match referee stretched time to see if even a five-over game was possible at all. But it wasn’t.
On Saturday, however, with the IND vs CAN game being a dead rubber, the officials called it off with just about an hour from the scheduled time. The rain from yesterday and today had done enough damage to the outfield and no play was possible. There is a Pakistan vs Ireland match scheduled for Sunday at the same venue, and it is likely to be abandoned or interrupted as well.
