IND vs ENG semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5.
India qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 by beating West Indies in their final Super 8 game at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten 97 as the Men in Blue completed their highest run-chase in T20 World Cups to enter the semis.
Samson, who was playing just his third match of the tournament, saved his best for the crunch moment as he played one of the best knocks of the tournament ever. His knock was laced with 12 fours and four sixes, playing a clinical role to take India through to their sixth T20 World Cup semi-final.
India will now face England in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5. Before that, South Africa will face New Zealand in the first semi-final in Kolkata on Wednesday, March 4. England became the first team to make it to the semis after winning all three of their Super 8 games. They beat Sri Lanka by 51 runs, Pakistan by two wickets and New Zealand by four wickets to make it to the semis.
India, on the other hand, started their Super 8 campaign with a massive 76-run loss to South Africa, which hampered their NRR. Then they registered a comfortable win over Zimbabwe and entered into their match against the West Indies in a must-win scenario.
India have a few weaklings ahead of the big semi-final clash against England. Abhishek Sharma’s repetitive failures with the bat and Varun Chakravarthy’s expensive spell in the semis might force the team management to think about making a few changes in the playing XI for the big semi-final.
In this article, we predict the likely changes for India for their semi-final clash against England on Thursday, March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
3 changes India should make for their semi-final clash against England
1) Rinku Singh replacing Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma started the tournament with three ducks. He then scored 15 off 12 balls against South Africa to score his first runs in the tournament. He backed that up by scoring a half-century against Zimbabwe in India’s second Super 8 clash. However, when he needed to score big against the West Indies in a must-win clash, he flopped again, scoring just 10 off 11 balls.
With India needing a solid start from their openers in the final, Abhishek might be replaced by Rinku Singh. This will allow Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan to open the batting. Rinku’s inclusion will lengthen the Indian batting lineup and he, along with Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya, can play the finisher’s role in the semi-final against England.
2) Kuldeep Yadav replacing Varun Chakravarthy

Varun has picked up a wicket in every game that India have played in the tournament, having picked 12 wickets so far. However, in the last three matches in the Super 8s, Varun was taken for runs by teams like South Africa, Zimbabwe and West Indies. He conceded 47 against the Proteas and 40 against the West Indies.
The opposition batters have read him well from the hand and pounced on the bad deliveries bowled by him. With Kuldeep Yadav in the wings, this is a good time to bring him into the XI instead of Varun, who looks to be under pressure at the moment.
Kuldeep played the match against Pakistan, picking up 1/14. One other key reason for playing Kuldeep in the semis is that England batters do not play leg-spin that well and it has been exposed in the tournament as well.
3) Mohammed Siraj replacing Arshdeep Singh

There is also a case of Arshdeep Singh being replaced by Mohammed Siraj in the semi-final against England. Arshdeep has taken seven wickets and has bowled economically in all the matches apart from the Super 8 match against West Indies.
However, his poor outing against the West Indies might be enough for him to be sacked from the XI with Siraj in the squad as well. The right-arm pacer, who was named as a replacement for Harshit Rana, played in India’s campaign opener against USA, which was also at Wankhede Stadium, and picked up 3/29.
That was the only game he played and he might be called back into the XI in place of Arshdeep in the semi-final.
