Wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel has been on good run of form against England in the ongoing five-match test series. Jurel has played two magnificent innings since his debut at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Jurel again played a superb knock in Ranchi to help India cut the deficit in the first innings. Jurel’s innings was defining one as India are in commanding position in the Ranchi test match.
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar was impressed with Dhruv Jurel’s temperament, skills as a batter and also as a wicket-keeper. Following his knock in the first innings of Ranchi test, Gavaskar likened him with that of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Jurel has now reacted on Gavaskar comparing him with Dhoni and his splendid batting show. Jurel expressed that he felt good after hearing nice words from legendary Indian opener.
Jurel responded on MS Dhoni’s comparisons
Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar said while commentating, “Of course he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricketer.”
To which, Dhruv Jurel responded and said, ” Obviously it’s a good feeling to hear a legend like Sunil Gavaskar talk about me. The mood was great, there were no specific instructions… just to go out and play. Watch the ball and play. Just that the long I play the better it is.”
Dhruv Jurel scored 90 runs and missed his maiden test ton by just 10 runs in the first innings of Ranchi test. Jurel was dismissed by England’s Left-arm spinner Tom Hartley. Jurel smacked six fours and four sixes in his knock. Jurel said that he doesn’t regret on missing century. He added, “I don’t regret a bit on missing the hundred. It’s my debut Test series, I’m just desperate to lift this trophy in my hands.”
Sunil Gavaskar was also impressed with Dhruv Jurel’s wicket-keeping skills. Jurel replaced KS Bharat in the Indian playing XI in Rajkot test. Bharat failed miserably with the bat in seven test matches he played. Jurel scored 46 runs on his first test innings in Rajkot. And with 90 in second innings of his test career, Jurel impressed everyone.
