IND vs ENG: 3 Indian cricketers who will return to ODI cricket for the first time since ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

The first match of the IND vs ENG 2025 ODI series will take place on February 6.
On Saturday, January 18, India announced their 15-member squad for the three-match home ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Men in Blue will play a three-match ODI series against England before heading to Dubai for the Champions Trophy.
The ODI series has been scheduled to help both teams prepare for the upcoming ICC event. India are likely to experiment with their squad to find the right balance ahead of the competition.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be biggest ODI tournament since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. India have played only six ODIs after the World Cup in 2023 till January 2025, and few of Indian cricketers will be returning to ODI cricket for the first time since the ODI World Cup 2023 in the three-match ODI series against England.
Let’s take a look at three Indian cricketers who will return to ODI cricket for the first time since ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Three Indian cricketers who will return to ODI cricket for the first time since ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
1. Mohammed Shami
Perhaps the biggest return to India’s ODI squad is of Mohammed Shami. Shami last represented India in ODI cricket during the 2023 World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad. He was then sidelined for over a year due to an ankle injury.
Shami has performed well in domestic games leading up to the ODI series. He will partner Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh in the fast bowling lineup.
2. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja will return to ODI cricket after the heartbreaking defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final. He played a key role during the tournament, delivering a match-winning spell against South Africa in the group stage.
He faces tough competition this time with the presence of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in the squad. India have made a bold decision to pick only three fast bowlers and are likely to opt for three spinners in the playing XI.
3. Hardik Pandya
Like Jadeja and Shami, Pandya’s last ODI match wasn’t the 50-over World Cup final in 2023. His last ODI game came against Bangladesh in Pune, where he injured his ankle and then was eventually ruled out of the tournament.
Pandya has been named as India’s only fast-bowling all-rounder and is expected to play as the third seamer through the England ODI series and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India will hope that the star all-rounder will thrive in the role of a finisher, something which the team lacked in the 2023 World Cup final.
