Mohammed Shami has returned to India squad for IND vs ENG T20I series.

After a disappointing season of test cricket, where the Indian team lost six of their last eight matches, the focus now shifts to the limited-overs cricket.

The “Men in Blue” are set to host England for a five-match T20I series, followed by a three-match ODI series as part of their preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad for the T20I series on Saturday, January 11. While the team features some exciting comebacks, a few players were unfortunately left out of the squad.

In this article, we will take a look at five Indian players who were part of the last T20I series against South Africa and have been dropped from the T20I squad against England.

Five Indian players who have been dropped from T20I squad

1. Jitesh Sharma

Wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma, who was part of India’s touring party to South Africa in November 2024, has lost his spot to youngster Dhruv Jurel. Jitesh was part of the Indian T20I squad for about a year and a half.

Sanju Samson has retained his spot after scoring impressive centuries in South Africa, while Dhruv Jurel is seen as an exciting future prospect. As a result, Jitesh Sharma has missed out on a place in the squad.

2. Vyshak Vijaykumar

Karnataka speedster Vyshak Vijaykumar will consider himself unlucky for being dropped without having the chance to prove himself on the international stage.

The 27-year-old bowling all-rounder was selected for the South Africa tour after impressive performances in domestic cricket. However, he didn’t get the opportunity to feature in the playing XI and now sees himself out of the T20I squad.

3. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan has been left out of the Indian squad for the home T20I series. His omission has largely come due to the return of star pacer Mohammed Shami.

Avesh Khan was impressive during the South Africa tour, providing solid support to Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI. Having taken 27 wickets in 25 T20Is for India, he will be keen to make a comeback to the squad in the near future.

4. Yash Dayal

Pacer Yash Dayal is another unlucky player to miss out on a spot against England. After an impressive Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he picked up 15 wickets, he earned a place in India’s T20I squad for the South Africa tour.

The left-arm speedster, however, did not get a chance to play in any of the four games of the series. He is still awaiting his international debut.

5. Ramandeep Singh

All-rounder Ramandeep Singh is another player to miss out from India’s squad for the T20I series against England. Ramandeep made his T20I debut during India’s last T20I series, which was an away tour of South Africa. He featured in two games in the series.

Getting the chance to bat once in the series, he scored 15 runs off just six balls, helping India finish strong. He also took his maiden T20I wicket during the series.
