Jasprit Bumrah is recovering from a back injury.
India will be without their spearhead fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the entire three-match ODI series against England, starting on February 6.
Though the BCCI has not made an official announcement yet, Bumrah’s name was absent from the updated squad the board released while including spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in it.
On Tuesday, the BCCI added Varun to the squad for the three-ODI series against the Three Lions. Bumrah was initially named in the squad but with an asterisk to his name as his participation was subject to fitness.
Earlier, it was said by chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar that Bumrah would miss the first two ODIs against England as he is recovering from a back injury and would feature in the third ODI to test his fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
But now, the speedster has been ruled out of the entire series after not being name in the updated squad.
Bumrah suffered back spasms during the last test against Australia, and couldn’t bowl in Australia’s second innings.
“I know he was asked to offload for five weeks of bowling, which is early first week February if I’m not wrong. And we’ll probably find out a bit more around that time what exactly and with regards to what his medical condition is,” Agarkar had said at the time of the squads announcement last month.
The BCCI had named pacer Harshit Rana in the squad for the England ODIs. Mohammed Shami will be making his comeback to ODI cricket after recently returning to T20Is from a long injury layoff.
India’s updated squad for ODI series against England: Rohit Sharma (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy.
